BUSINESS BIO: The movie garnered high marks from critics calling it "one of the best indie horror films in years" commending Ferrante for his "keen eye when it comes to arresting visuals, macabre imagery while having a firm grasp on his scare set pieces." Even the Masters of Horror themselves gave raves to the film with John Landis, director of An American Werewolf in London proclaiming, "Enough scares for five scary movies," while Re-Animator director Stuart Gordon said, "You'll be jumping out of your seats." Released on DVD on October 25, 2005, BOO quickly became one of the highest grossing independent horror films of 2005, staying on VARIETY's Direct-To-DVD charts for five weeks straight netting over $1.2 million in rental revenue in that short time. Its rental revenue actually increased during its second week of release, unheard of in the direct-to-video realm. BOO also made its TV debut in June 2006 on the SCI FI Channel nabbing a 1.7 rating (with over two million households sampling the horror film) - making it the highest rated program of the week on the cable outlet, performing better than such original series as DOCTOR WHO, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and GHOST HUNTERS. This success led to the SCI FI Channel hiring Ferrante to direct a new take on the Sleepy Hollow legend. Titled HEADLESS HORSEMAN, it was shot in Romania in fall 2006 and made its debut on the network Halloween weekend 2007 and also had its Los Angeles debut at the Mann's Chinese Theater during the ScreamFest Horror Film Festival. The DVD hit shelves last May. Ferrante began his filmmaking career when he was 15, picking up a video camera to create such low budget epics such as BUM RAP, EYES OF THE NIGHTWIND, GIMME A BUCKET and DUMBCHUCKS. He continued his love of filmmaking at San Francisco State where he received a B.A. in film. He eventually moved to Los Angeles where he broke into the business serving as second unit director and special make-up effects supervisor on such diverse films as THE DENTIST 1 & 2, PROGENY and WISHMASTER II-EVIL NEVER DIES. During that time, Ferrante also wrote and directed numerous short films including the BACE and Telly award winning GOD TALK, SEE YOU NEXT WEDNESDAY and CURSE OF THE NIGHTWIND. He also co-wrote and co-directed three volumes of the horror videozine THE DEAD BEAT. In 2000, he co-wrote and directed the parody short THE SURREAL WORLD-TATOOINE: EPISODE 1.5 - clips of which appeared on MTV's The Real World - 10th Anniversary Special and was a winner at the New Mexico Film Fiesta. A passionate sci-fi and horror entertainment enthusiast, Ferrante also spent time as a journalist writing for several magazines including Fangoria, Moving Pictures, GoreZone, Horror Spectacular, Film World, Ray Gun and Script Magazine. He also served as Editor In Chief of the popular genre print magazine Cinescape for four years. Additionally, he's worked with Centropolis Entertainment and Dean Devlin (INDEPENDENCE DAY, GODZILLA) developing and serving as Editor in Chief of two popular online magazines: EON, Mothership and iF Magazine. Recently he relaunched iF Magazine as a pop culture magazine with Devlin and his Electric Entertainment banner. Currently, Ferrante is attached to helm THE KEY a dark coming-of-age horror film from his script with Jacob Hair; the horror-thriller THE CALLING from writer Jay Frasco and the epic horrific fantasy film CANDYAPPLEBLACK, which he co-wrote with Regent St. Claire and is based on a 7-issue comic book series. Recently, Ferrante penned the haunted house film HOUSE OF BONES with Jay Frasco for the SCI FI Channel. |
