BUSINESS BIO: Like millions before him, Brian Herskowitz wrote his first screenplay, an action thriller about a young man who moves to Tokyo to train for the Olympics in Judo and gets caught up in intrigue with the Yakuza. Through that script, based on his true-life experience as an international judo competitor, he uncovered a knack and passion for writing. As a writer, Brian has completed well over a dozen feature films. His first produced feature was a low budget slasher titled DARKROOM. He wrote, produced, and directed ODESSA OR BUST, an award winning short film starring JASON ALEXANDER, RED BUTTONS, GINA HECHT, GEORGE WENDT, and JASON SCHWARTZMAN. He currently has several projects in active development including, THE ABDUCTION, THE EMPRESS OF ELSEWHERE (co-written with Theresa Nelson based on her best selling novel), PRIME EVIL, and FAIRIES (co-written with Pam Dawber and Andie Tobey). His feature screenplay, THINNING THE HERD was recently optioned by Ensemble Entertainment. As a writer/producer/director Brian recently partnered with Co-Op productions and has several projects in pre-production including Producing duties on LOOSIES, starring Peter Facinelli and Rachael Leigh Cook, CARNIOVRA (Produced and Written by), co-produced with Academy Award Winning FX house Drac Studio, and INDENTITY THEFT (Produce, Written, and Directed by) with Chris Noth. His TV credits include a staff writing position on the NBC sit-com BLOSSOM, multiple episodes of HERCULES: THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS, the HBO hit comedy DREAM ON, CBS's RENEGADE, THE EXILE, MURDER, SHE WROTE, the FOX Network's YOUNG HERCULES, and CBS's critically acclaimed was series TOUR OF DUTY. Brian co-wrote the FOX pilot MANTIC with Jason Alexander, and was a punch-up writer on CBS' LISTEN UP pilot. He recently completed producer duties on THE BROADROOM, a new web series from Candace Bushnell of SEX AND THE CITY fame that starred JENNY GARTH, JENNIFER ESPOSITO, and TALIA BALSAM. As a working voice-over actor Brian has been heard in hundreds of hours of TV and feature films, live action and animation. His commercial work includes national spots for KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN, PROPECIA, BERRINGER WINE, DRUGSTORE.COM and many others. Brian currently teaches screenwriting for the prestigious BOSTON UNIVERSITY LOS ANGELES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM and on-line for UCLA Extensions. For five years he was the sit-com instructor for Writer's Bootcamp. In Fall of 2008 his text book on screenwriting PROCESS TO PRODUCT will be published by Halcyon Press. PERSONAL BIO: As an avid practitioner of martial arts, a 4th degree black belt in Judo, and a first degree in Kempo Katate, Brian recently won the 2004, 2005, and 2006 U.S. Masters Judo Championships as well as a silver medal at the 2005 World Master Judo Championships and a gold medal in 2009. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Gina Hecht, and their two children.
